Janette Stoll with Marketing Direct Sales
There are so many direct sales opportunities to choose from. I don’t know if there’s one best opportunity because every business has its upside and downside. The important thing is to choose a direct sales opportunity that you can get excited to represent. Here are 6 tips to choosing a successful direct sales opportunity for you.
#1 Research company
Do a thorough research. If it’s a ground floor opportunity, check for leadership experience and financial stability. You can tell a lot by the appearance of the website, packaging of products, literature and corporate responsiveness.
Don’t hesitate to email or call corporate directly with questions. How quickly and easily is it to contact customer service? You should be interviewing a potential opportunity to see if it’s a good fit for you.
#2 Product need
Don’t make the mistake that if you love the products, you’ll be successful. Products don’t sell themselves, marketing does. Similarly, some products always sell regardless of whether there’s an economic downturn or not simply because people need to use them.
Also consider if the product is a one-time sale or if it’s a consumable product which will generate repeat sales.
#3 Think like a customer
You are a customer first so if you hesitate i.e. whether you would buy the products or not is an indication there isn’t a market need. Your customers will likely have the same concerns if you have them. Be honest and ask yourself if you would buy the products regardless of the business opportunity or not.
#4 Cost to join
Most direct sales opportunities are very affordable. Ranging anywhere from free to $10 to upward in the hundreds. The problem with direct sales is that it often attracts people who don’t have the skill sets or the money (sometimes both).
With such a low start up costs, it can attract people who have the “give it a try” mentality. You wouldn’t have this mentality if you had to invest thousands of dollars to start a business. Ask yourself if you’re serious about starting a business or just looking to give it a try. Setting the right expectations and mindset matter a great deal.
#5 Training and support
The right training and mentoring with an experienced upline will give you the best chance at success. To compete in this "internet" economy, the training should include offline and online marketing. Does the company or upline offer a blueprint that you can duplicate such as a "how to" start a blog or setting up social media?
Partnering with a mentor that already has the training in place and ready for you to duplicate will shortcut your learning curve- saving you hundreds of dollars and enormous amount of start-up time. The right training will get you from point A to point B quicker which means you’ll be earning money faster.
#6 Expectations and goals
Set realistic and achievable goals. Nothing motivates you like success. You won’t achieve success unless you set expectations, goals, and take daily action. You have to do something, even just one thing, but do it everyday.
Don’t be afraid to fail because you will fail many times before you will succeed. Just keep on taking daily action.
